Event Information

The 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-thon, originally scheduled for May 14, 2016, has been postponed. It will take place at the 24 Hour Fitness Ultra Sport in Irvine, CA.

Every year the Dance-A-Thon plays host to a large variety of Bands, DJ’s and Instructors from all around. This event would not be where it is today if it was not for the voluntary effort of these people.  We are so honored to have them come back year after year and make this event what it is.

Bands
Every other hour at the dance-a-thon a live swing band plays for the dancers. It’s an incredible effort for band leaders to mobilize a group of musicians to come and play for free. Please say thank you to the many players who donate their time and talent to keep us dancing. Many have been touched by cancer and others love to be part of something this big. Jazz musicians seem especially happy to play for dancers who care so much about their talents.

Instructors
In between the live bands world class professional swing dance teachers give half hour lessons for beginners and intermediate dancers. The lessons are huge and you will meet many dance partners. There are at least a hundred people participating who have never danced before. Even though only one person from each team is required to participate at a time the classes are the most popular part of the dance-a-thon. Our teachers are all top notch and keep busy teaching schedules. Tell them thank you. The event would be impossible without them.

DJ’s
While the bands are setting up on stage DJ’s play their favorite songs to keep you dancing straight for 24 hours. DJ’s allow us to dance to a huge variety of new and old swing music. Dance-a-thon DJ’s are hand picked because of the pride they take in keeping people on the floor. It costs a lot of money to build a collection of dance music and a rare talent to make everybody happy. Be sure the say thanks as you make your requests.

Performers
In addition to the bands, lessons, and DJ’s you will enjoy special performances by dance teams from around So Cal. There are usually a few lindy hop numbers and “girl troupes” who choreograph numbers just to be debut at the dance-a-thon. With over 600 participants we make for an awesome audience.
